When she sleeps upon his chest,
The whole world seems to rest.
Tiny fingers clutch his t-shirt tight,
As moonlight spills into the night.
Her little breaths brush against his face,
Soft and warm in their gentle pace.
And in her sleep, those quiet cooes
Melt his heart the whole night through.
The day she came, so tiny, so new,
He held the universe wrapped in blue.

Now she is six months old and bright,

Every sleepy rocking chair,
Every burp upon his shoulder

As he tugs her gently to sleep tonight,
Holding her close beneath dim light,
A thousand thoughts drift through his mind,
Tender, aching, and beautifully kind.
He wonders how his soul will tremble
The day he hears his greatest call—
Two tiny syllables, soft and small,
“Papa…”
His whole world inside that single call.

Though one day she’ll spread her wings and fly,

For she will always be his little girl,
